The track plan below shows the major features of the layout.

Viewing side

Operating side

Colchester Barrack Street is a minimum space O gauge layout and is largely an exercise in shunting. There is a passenger service which in reality shuttles to and from the fiddle yard.

Programme notes

Colchester Barrack Street is the Colchester terminus of the Mersea Light Railway and also the interchange with British Railways. Regular goods trains service the wharf, coal depot and warehouse. Passenger services are provided by a single coach shuttle from the main BR station. Locomotives and stock are a typical light railway mix!

Note to Exhibition Managers

I purchased this layout from the previous owner who lived in East London. The layout was exhibited by him (as Tidal Basin) and some of the stock is the same. The layout has been extended and modified to become Colchester Barrack Street. There are plans to link this layout with other parts of the Mersea Light Railway modelled by other members of the North East Essex Gauge 0 group (Fingrinhoe)
