Programme notes

Holloway Hall is the terminus of a branch line in the former Southern Railway Mid Sussex area. The branch was closed in the 1960's when so many other valuable branch lines were sacrificed on the altar of short-sighted economics.

However, an enthusiastic group of local people joined together in 1968 to form the Holloway Hall Preservation Society. Much work has been done to the station building, signal box and former store to maintain the distinctive SR feel of the line. The track work and the signalling has been restored and all the infrastructure is maintained by an ever growing band of enthusiasts.

The one worry is the ever thickening forest which some time in the future will need a little more than a pair of secateurs.

Today is August Bank Holiday, one of the busiest days of the year. A mixed steam and diesle service is running all day and demonstration goods trains will remind us all that freight was once a major source of rail revenue.

There will also be a number of visits by well-known steam engines, so have your camera ready.

Operational requirements & costs

To transport Holloway Hall, we need to hire a short wheel based transit.
